Getting to and around the New Forest

 

The New Forest offers great opportunities for areas to explore both in and around the forest area. This area of outstanding natural beauty is a sheer delight for visitors who visit time and again due to its magnificence and beauty. The New Forest is a popular place for holidays and this forest is relatively easily accessible from various places in the UK. Visitors have the option of reaching the New Forest by plane, train, bus, and car or through hired taxis. There are also several options open to visitors to get to and around the New Forest. Visitors can avail any of the options to reach and explore this beautiful forest.

Getting to the New Forest by Rail


There are four main railway stations in the New Forest, which are: Ashurst, Brockenhurst, Sway and New Milton. Some other stations in this area are Hinton Admiral, New Milton, Lymington and Totton. At Brockenhurst station over a hundred trains stop that provide easy access to the heart of the New Forest. All the South West trains connect Brockenhurst with Winchester, London Waterloo, Basingstoke, Bournemouth and Weymouth.

Reaching the New Forest by Car
Visitors planning to visit the New Forest from the north and east can take the M27 motorway route. Travellers from Southampton, London or the east can exit the M27 at Junction 1 and head southwards into the forest. Travellers from west can use A31 from Dorset and from north can take either A338 from Salisbury to Ringwood in the west. The travellers can even take A36 to Totton in the east.

Driving around the New Forest


Probably the most popular option for Brits at least, is driving around the New Forest. Driving from destination to destination within the New Forest can be a convenient way of seeing the New Forest. Once parked up, it is possible to enjoy walking around various parts of the New Forest. Others like to combine driving with cycling, either taking bikes with them or hiring cycles within the New Forest.
Bus Services in the New Forest
Bus services are operated around the New Forest area offering convenience to visitors. Bluestar and Wilts and Dorset operate across the New Forest area. Some find tour buses in particular an ideal way to explore and enjoy the real New Forest as visitors just have to sit back and experience the amazing countryside, historic villages and wonderful coastline. Visitors are also allowed to hop on and off the tour bus to explore the in-between villages and attractions.
Cycling around the New Forest
There are a number of cycle routes in the New Forest including country lanes and off road cycle paths. There are a number of places within the New Forest where you can hire cycles and helmets.

Taxi Travel
Visitors planning to visit New Forest can avail the taxi services that are available throughout the year in the New Forest area. For safety reasons only use licensed taxis. Travelling by taxi in the UK can be expensive so most people only use taxis for very short journeys. To explore the New Forest, it is likely to be more economical to book a coach trip, hire a car or to hire a bike and cycle around.
